Dear Parents, Students, Friends and Supporters,

Hi, our names are Kelsey Stevens and Nicole Sullivan. We are seventh graders and attend the Douglas Intermediate Elementary School. We were recently nominated and accepted to participate as members of the People to People Student Ambassador Program to Europe this summer. In Europe we will be visiting France, Greece, and Italy. We will also have a home stay in France. The objective of the program is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among America’s youth. The 20-day experience includes meetings with government officials, interaction with other students our age, educational activities, and home stays with host families.
In case you haven’t heard of People to People, please allow us to share some history with you. President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the organization in 1956. He believed that if people from different cultures could come together in peace and friendship, so eventually would countries. Since its founding, People to People has launched many international programs, including Sister Cities and Project HOPE.
People to People Student Ambassadors are carefully interviewed and evaluated before their acceptance and we are honored to have been selected. As Ambassadors, we can also earn high school and college credit because of the many educational elements in this program.
The program tuition is $5,500 per student, which includes all transportation, accommodations, meals and educational activities. To help raise money for us to take part in this wonderful opportunity, we will be selling Limited Edition, custom-designed “Douglas” teddy bears. The cost is only $10.00 per bear and they will be delivered at the end of April. Please note that because these are custom-made, we will only have enough for those who send in their order form.
Also, there will be a drawing for a 36” (Three-Foot Tall!) version of the Douglas bear. Only 2 of these are being produced and you could own one of them!
All the money raised will go towards our tuition cost and is greatly appreciated! Thank you for helping!
